What is a Life Insurance Beneficiary

A life insurance beneficiary is essentially the person or persons that receive the benefit when the insured dies. For example, if you have a $100,000 life insurance policy, then the person you name as your beneficiary will receive the $100,000 when you die.
1.If a beneficiary is not named on your policy, then the money is paid to your estate. The money will be distributed according to how the rest of the estate is to be divided according to your will.
2.You will usually name your beneficiary on your application for life insurance. You can change it in the future by contacting your life insurance company or your life insurance agent. You also have the option of naming more than one beneficiary and can even give each beneficiary a specified percentage of the benefit. For instance you could leave 20% to each of 4 children and 5% to each of 4 grandchildren.
3. There are several benefits to naming your beneficiaries in your policy versus just leaving the policy to your estate:
1) Speed. In most instances, life insurance companies will pay the life insurance to the beneficiaries as soon as a claim is filed. Often times estate situations can take a while to resolve if there is a lot of property involved or disputes involving the estate.
2) Taxes. Life insurance benefits are usually paid to the individual beneficiaries without any taxes being owed by the beneficiaries. In some situations estate taxes are paid based on the size of the total estate before those benefits are paid out to those named in the will. Life insurance would just add to the estate and require more estate taxes to be paid.
3) Debts. If the insured dies with outstanding debts, then their life insurance beneficiaries receive the benefits and creditors do not have access to the money. If the money is left to an estate, then often times creditors and bill collectors will need to be paid before the estate is paid out to those named in the will.
As always, I recommend that you seek the advice of a trusted tax professional on issues involving income taxes and an estate attorney on issues involving wills. Please see my disclaimer at the bottom of the page for more information.

Buy Travel Insurance For Visitors to British Columbia, Canada Online Now

Wawanesa Insurance Company is a Canadian insurer operating on insurance market for more than a hundred years. It is one of the largest property and casualty insurers in Canada. Wawanesa owns a subsidiary company - Wawanesa Life, which is also targeted at the Canadian insurance market. In the 1970's Wawanesa has expanded its operations and established another subsidiary company in the United States - Wawanesa General.

Nowadays, Wawanesa has 1.800 employees working in Canada and the United States and 1.300 insurance brokers working in Canadian insurance market. In 2005 the Company earned $1.5 billion and expanded its portfolio to three billion dollars. It is one of the most reliable insurers in Canada.
In the beginning
The story of Wawanesa begins in 1895 when Alonzo Fowler Kempton and Charles Kerr decided to establish an insurance company, which would be more efficient than the companies existed at the moment and consequently, could charge lower premiums. The idea was viable. Twenty local farmers liked the initiative and invested $20 each to finance the company. Thus, the company was born.

For the first few years Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company experienced considerable losses, the fact that made it to diversify its coverage into a broader range of farm equipment and buildings, schools and churches. In addition, the company expanded its activity into new geographical areas - Saskatchewan and Alberta provinces. By the end of the century Wawanesa was protecting $1 million worth property. A few years later this figure grew to $20 million and in 1910 the company claimed to be "the largest Mutual Fire Insurance Company in Canada".

During the First World War the growth remained stable, and Wawanesa retained the name of a reliable company. In 1922 the company underwent a change in leadership. The new managing director, Charles Morley Vanstone was the man, who led Wawanesa Insurance through the hard times of the Great Depression.
Further growth
In 1926 Wawanesa offered its clients coverage on private buildings in towns and cities. In 1928 the company diversified its coverage more and issued the very first auto insurance policy. A year later Wawanesa was granted a Dominion of Canada charter, which meant the company could offer coverage throughout Canada. The years of the Great Depression had a little impact on Wawanesa. In fact the company strengthened and expanded during this period. It opened new branches in Montréal, Winnipeg, and Moncton within five years. While other businesses collapsed, Wawanesa prospered and before the Second World War Wawanesa had a reputation of a "straightforward organization, free from chicanery and all forms of trickery".
During the 1940's and 1950's, Wawanesa Insurance became known as an innovative company. For instance, the company offered low premiums to young British Columbians who completed either a Canadian Automobile Association approved driver course, or a high-school driving program.
In the early 1960's, the company opened its subsidiary - Wawanesa Life Insurance Company. For the next few years both companies grew steadily, however in the late 1960's the company faced a new challenge, which had a great influence on the company's future.
New expansion
After the 1969 election of a New Democratic Party government in Manitoba, all drivers were compelled to buy auto insurance policies from the government-established "Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation". This had a drastic impact on Wawanesa, since the company was the largest automobile insurer in the region. The company's income in Manitoba fell to one-third of what it had been a year earlier. This and other factors enforced Wawanesa to diversify its business. The board of directors decided to open a subsidiary company in the United States, and California looked as the most promising area for the new business.
A year later, Wawanesa opened a new office in San Diego, California. It was the right decision; the market was as large as Canadian. In the first month Wawanesa issued 102 policies and San Diego proved itself as the best possible choice. Over the next 20 years the local population increased in five times and Wawanesa was destined to grow with the region.
In 1996 Wawanesa celebrated its centenary. It is certain that stability and service, the values that have always been the backbone of Wawanesa, will continue to guide the company in its second century.

Online affordable car insurance is every vehicle owner's dream. But, you can't just get out from bed one fine day and head straight to the insurance company after being struck by the idea of insuring your vehicle. It requires certain efforts on your part, and smart decisions too, to hit upon the best bargain.

You need not have a degree in finance to understand the basics as well as policies of online affordable car insurance. Just a little bit of reading will make you savvy.

The Declaration Page Has It All

The declaration page of your auto insurance is no less precious than the Declaration of American Independence! Read it carefully. It contains 'little secrets' that every policy holder should know.

  • You will find your policy period here. It is the time up to which your policy is valid. It differs with different insurance companies. Some have an annual policy while some others have a half yearly renewal policy.

Tip: Do not take an auto insurance that has a declaration page showing expired policy period. You might be categorized in sub-standard policy carrier. Take your insurance at least 30 days before it gets invalid.

  • If you have more than one car, give the vehicle identification number of each of them to the company. This influences your physical damage rate. Many companies offer discounts to multiple car owners. This is the best time to flaunt your cars!
  • If your family members have driver's license and they don't have their own policies, make sure they are listed in your insurance policy.
  • Liability limit for property damage as well as personal injury is an important thing to consider. Property owners should not try to cut costs in this coverage. As per the coverage policy, company provides benefits to the third party that might be injured in car accident. It also pays for car repairs.
  • There is something called physical damage mentioned in the declaration page of your online affordable car insurance. This is the comprehensive and collision benefit. It is coverage for your vehicle. Its rate depends on your deductible amount.

Do not skip reading the declaration page. It answers many of your questions regarding online affordable car insurance. If you have any doubts, never hesitate to ask your company, no matter how silly your question may sound. After all, you are paying a price for insuring your car.

    Your Rental Car Insurance

While it's true almost no one wants to pay extra for a car rental, sometimes the insurance add ons can be very smart buys. A lot will depend on what your private auto insurance covers, but when it's needed, renter's insurance can be a real lifesaver.

The best bet to make sure you have the right rental car insurance coverage before you sign a lease is to check with your private insurance company before getting a rental. In many cases, private insurance will cover a lot, so the add on buy might not be worth the expense. However, the only way to know for sure is to ask, so make sure to do so.

If you do need rental insurance, you'll find there are several different types you can buy. Let's take a look at the main types of add on insurance:

Collision damage or loss damage waiver: This type covers everything, including the deductible, in the event of a crash. This might not be needed for some private insurance policy holders, but it can be a real money saver in an emergency for those who do need it. This coverage is generally fairly inexpensive. Do remember to check with your company before buying this type. It's very possible you already have it. If paying by credit card, also check with the credit card company before buying this option as some credit cards cover this, too.

Personal accident coverage: This insurance option covers accidental death and medical situations for the renter and passengers. Many times this coverage is not needed as personal insurance on your own car tends to travel with you. Be safe though and ask before you turn this down. It generally isn't very expensive, but what it covers can be.

Property coverage: There is an option that will cover all your belongings in a rental car from such things as loss, theft or even destruction in an accident. Again, private auto insurance policies will generally travel to the rental car and cover these things, but do find out before you turn it down. This type of auto coverage is generally pretty cheap, and it can be very welcomed if it's needed.

Liability: Here and again this type may not be necessary for those who have their own private insurance, but it's a very important coverage if it's needed. Liability covers you from claims made by others for injury, death and/or property damage.

Many of the major dollar rent auto insurance coverage types available might not be necessary purchases if you have good private auto insurance, but it pays to find out. Being covered in a rental car can be a very big deal if there's an accident or theft takes place. Nothing can ruin a vacation quicker than an uncovered accident. Check with your insurance company to be sure, and if you're not covered, cheap car rental insurance can help.

A Crash, a Wreck and Car Bike Racks

A few days ago I was driving with my little brother Jan to a town called Hallodays. We had no clue where we were exactly, but at least we knew the name of the town. It was somewhere in Colorado, a state that usually implies snow, great mountains or parties after skiing the whole day. But his place was different. It had nothing in common with these attributes that sound like fun. This place was pretty much the opposite of a “fun place”. Hallodays was a town in the middle of nowhere: No snow, no greens and primarily no people.
Now you are probably wondering what I did there? The answer is the one that is common for trips like this: bike racks! Ok, not everyone is such a huge fan of bikes and all these kinds of bike accessories, but I recommend sharing this interest with me. No other passion lets you see places like Hallodays, where probably no tourist has ever been. Two hundred people are living over there and surely everyone knows each other. But as you can imagine, the weird town was not the actual reason why I traveled there with my brother. It was the area around. There is likely no other place in the world, where you can drive as fast as you want and check out the performance of your auto’s engine. But as I mentioned, driving my car just to check the engine’s performance did not bring me there.

Insurance is good sevise for us

car insuranceJoachim Creutzburg, the Marketing Director Original Equipment from Blaupunkt, a subsidiary of Bosch which helped Ford develop the Human Machine Interface said: "We recognize the importance of speech technology to make telematics, navigation and infotainment solutions safer and easier to control. Not only do we offer our automotive customers the most advanced speech enabled solutions, our portable navigation solutions in the aftermarket also allow destination entry and control by voice."
With the technology developed by Blaupunkt and powered by Nuance, consumers can simply say the address of their destination and the navigation system will readily read out all information needed by the driver. Other navigational system requires drivers to type in the address of their destination which can distract the driver while driving. Another new feature for Ford vehicles is the one push phone call. By pushing the "push to talk" button on the steering wheel and saying the number or the name of the phonebook entry, the system will dial the number.
Steve Chambers, the president for Mobile and Consumer Services Division at Nuance, said: "Nuance has a long history of working with Ford. Now with the advanced speech technology in the Blaupunkt navigation solution, we are able to offer drivers a safer alternative to the drivers' distraction created by the use of navigation systems in cars. With the voice user interface, powered by Nuance Automotive, drivers no longer need to take their eyes off the road or their hands from the wheel to dial their phone, enter an address to the navigation system or control their audio system."
This feature in the future will not only be available for Ford vehicles as other automakers are sure to follow suit. Luxury vehicles like Acuras with Acura body parts can be expected to have this feature soon.

Car insurance is a best protection for a car

Car insurance UK is a service which is mighty popular in UK. The reason for it is very simple. In case of damage of a car this often is the only help that people can expect to have. Especially in todays times when craze for cars has peaked this is one mighty important service. No one can argue that one of the dreams that every individual possesses is to own a car. A dream machine that would not only make his journey comfortable but which would also be a tremendous add on to one's status symbol. There is something tremendously attractive about cars that no one has been able to stay clear of its attraction. No wonder it has been on top of everyone's wish list in all times and ages.

The only difference being that people in earlier times were not able to buy this because it was fairly expensive for middle class where as in present times, thanks to the mushrooming of several financial institutions, anyone can purchase these gorgeous machines. However, if the car undergoes any damage then one can be rest assured that one might be forced to shell out a fortune for everything in today's world comes with a fairly high price tag. This can be quite a handful for a man with average income who would now be forced to pay on two different fronts - one on repayment of loans and other on the repair of the car. It is here that car insurance UK comes to the rescue of people and ensures that they are spared from shelling out an exorbitant amount by arranging for the repair of the car.
    CAR INSURANCE
Needless to say what a relief such a service like car insurance UK can be for people. However, one must understand that car insurance can only be helpful when people actually take care of a few things. Firstly they must ensure that their vehicle is priced fairly, then they also should see that the policy comes to life as soon as it is signed. Also needed to be taken care of is the fact that no wrong information is given to the insurance company as also that a thorough check is done to ensure that all the information put in the agreement is correct and to one's satisfaction.

These efforts would ensure that car insurance UK goes a long way in helping people out in such a desperate time when their car has faced a major damage and need a thorough over hauling.

Car Insurance - do you really understand

Insuring your vehicle is probably one of the least enjoyable aspects of being a car owner. But as it’s a legal requirement it’s unfortunately not something that can be avoided.
With thousands of insurance companies to choose from, each using unfamiliar terminology, finding car insurance can be quite a daunting task for a new driver.
Without guidance, searching for car insurance quotes and finding the right policy can be a challenge. Here are some tips to help simplify the process of understanding car insurances.
    Different Types of Policies
When you apply for car insurance you will be faced with the following policy options:
    Third Party
This is the minimum amount of cover that insurance companies can offer you. It only covers damage costs if you injure someone else or their property in a motoring accident. Any damages or injuries sustained to yourself or your vehicle will be down to you to pay for.
    Third Party Fire and Theft
This is the minimum amount of cover that some companies will offer. You will be protected if you injure or damage someone else’s property. It also covers your own vehicle if it is stolen or burnt. What it won’t cover you for is the cost of your vehicle if it’s involved in an accident or is vandalized. This type of insurance is most appropriate when you have a vehicle that is of low value.
    Comprehensive
This is the most expensive form of insurance but it covers you for almost every eventuality. What it covers can vary depending on insurer but most fully comprehensive insurance will cover you for accidental damage to your own vehicle, injury to someone else, damage to their vehicle and damage to your vehicle from fire and theft. Some policies will cover you for items that are stolen from your vehicle and also medical expenses if you are injured.
    Excess
When applying for your for car insurance you will be asked to agree on an excess fee. This means that if you are involved in an accident that is your fault, then you will be required to pay the first £100 - £500 of the claim. . If you are trying to reduce your policy then you can pay a higher excess, but in the event of an accident that is your fault, you will be required to pay this amount when you make the claim. It is important to note that with some insurers you may be required to pay a young drivers excess if you are under 25 years of age.
    No claims Bonus
This is the number of years that you have had car insurance without making a claim. The more years you have the better, as this proves to the insurance company that you are of low risk, which will lead to a reduction in the amount you have to pay. If you do happen to make a claim, which is proven to be your fault, then you can lose you no claims bonus. If you have a number of years built up then your insurance company can offer you protection on those years, so you don’t lose them in event of an accident that is your fault.

    Car Insurance

    car insurance auto

Having lived in America and South Africa I have found it difficult moving back to a country where the individual is insured as opposed to the vehicle. It used to be the case that if I wanted to borrow someone's car that they'd sling me their keys and off I'd go safe in the knowledge that if the worst were to happen I'd be covered.
Forgetting the laws in England I recently suggested to a friend that I drove their car home for them from the pub. The idea was laughed at and not because of my questionable driving. The reason is the penalties for being caught are so severe. The same applies for lending a vehicle over a couple of days. It is often difficult to find insurers that are willing to cover you for a short amount of time. So borrowing a car for a single journey can end up being extremely expensive.

    The break down of insurance

Vehicles have long been a staple in the lives of most men and women today. Thanks to advancements in technology, many vehicles have become part playground, office, and even bedroom. There is not much that you cannot do from the driver's seat anymore.
The family car is more than a tool for just work and play; it is entrusted with the lives of you and your family on a daily basis. It can also be a status symbol for all of your past and present accomplishments in life. Cars really are more iatrical than some people would think. It only makes sense that you would have an auto insurance policy to protect this very important investment.
    FYI About Auto Insurance
What exactly is auto insurance? It is more than just an added expense and piece of paper stuffed in your glove box. You even begin to wonder how needed it even is. Think of your auto insurance policy as a shield and a back-up generator all in one; it can keep you safe from the possible and unforeseen accident and/or mishap.
Auto insurance may not be able to prevent that other driver from careening in you or the lamp post from jumping into the middle of the road during a rain storm, but that little piece of paper can shelter you and your family from unnecessary harassment and further turmoil during a time when you may not be at your fighting best.
You have made the decision to obtain auto insurance for your vehicle. Do you know what is included in your policy? It is good to know what basic points of coverage your
