What do you think of your auto insurance rates?
The purpose of the Auto Insurance Affordability hearing is to receive testimony from consumers, industry experts, and other stakeholders to address two basic questions:
1) Are Michigan's auto insurance rates affordable?
2) Has Michigan's de-regulation of the insurance industry allowed for adequate oversight of auto insurance rates?
Testimony received at the hearing will inform the Advocate's recommendations for auto insurance reform, to be contained in the Advocate's Annual Report to the Governor. The Executive Order creating the Advocate position requires the Annual Report to contain recommendations for administrative, legislative, or other corrective actions that would positively affect the interests of automobile insurance consumers.

Maryland Insurance Administration orders refunds for premium loan charges
The companies, which loan policyholders money for auto insurance premiums and collect interest on the financing upfront, were ordered Monday to adhere to state-mandated guidelines on interest rates. The Maryland Auto Insurance Fund (MAIF) is the state’s auto insurer of last resort for individuals and businesses. Baltimore-based Insurance Billing Services and Greenbelt-based U.S. Capital Associates — were charging interest on policies that hadn’t been financed or were canceled before the loan term ended. He said the two companies were ordered to refund those fees to policyholders and pay them an additional six percent interest.
Executives with those companies could not be immediately reached Monday.
Among the companies listed in the order are: Lithicum-based Agency Services Inc.; Baltimore-based Central Acceptance Co., Inc.; Baltimore-based Gebco Insurance Associates, Inc./Crown Premium Funding Co.; Baltimore-based H&S Finance Co.; Baltimore-based Insurance Billing Services; Baltimore-based Insurance Payment Plan Inc.; Owings Mills-based Premium Finance of America, Inc.; Laurel-based Senate Acceptance Corp.; Greenbelt-based U.S. Capital Associates.

Do you really understand how your car insurance works
While we all know that it goes on, there has been very little comment about this element of the car insurance industry. The insurers will no doubt suggest that they cannot payout more than the value of your car prior to it being written off, but if that is the case why do they ask you for a rough value? Why do they even take the value into consideration?
Then you need to consider the fact that a portion of your premiums are actually used to refund the insurance industry for the cost of uninsured drivers. So are we really getting the best deal on car insurance in the UK? What are the real variables that the insurance companies use to arrive at the premium levels?

Insurance Overseer Supports a National Catastrophe Fund
Since then the OIR has routinely denied requests for rate increases, and subsequent disputes have led to recent actions such as a $5 million fine against Allstate Floridian for failing to provide - and allegedly falsifying - documents to support an increase proposal.
Also, on Sept. 9, the OIR announced it will require State Farm Florida to pay a $1 million penalty and refund $120 million to policyholders for its lapses in implementing a discount program for residents who fortified their homes against hurricane damage.
McCarty, 49, is a University of Florida graduate and the state's first appointed insurance commissioner. We interviewed him Sept. 11 while he was in the area visiting state representatives.
Q. There seems to be an ongoing debate between the OIR and some insurers over what constitutes a sufficient rate to cover future damages, versus an excessive profit. How do you draw that line?
A. What we have seen in some cases is companies having profit margins of 25 percent or 30 percent. Well, nobody has profit margins of 25 or 30 percent in any industry. They are using (damage prediction) models that have not been approved by the Florida Commission on Hurricane Loss Prediction Methodology. They're going from a traditional 100-year model to a 5-year model that generates huge increases in losses. These haven't been approved, these haven't been vetted, they're not even scientifically sound. I don't want to paint everyone with the same brush, but there has been a group of companies that look for ways to gin up numbers so they can pocket the profits. We want you to have an opportunity to put your product in the commerce stream, but in doing so we want to make sure that it strikes a balance between business and consumer protection.
Q. Some industry officials and critics from within the Legislature, among them Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Lakeland, have claimed that the state has artificially lowered rates and tampered with the market, and in the process discouraged competition because of the increased role of Citizens Property Florida's state-run insurer of last resort, and currently the largest property insurer in Florida.
There's no question. You can talk to reinsurers, reinsurance brokers or the companies themselves. We went from 7 percent of your premium dollar going to reinsurance to 48 percent going to reinsurance. That's staggering. That's in the course of 2 1/2 years. If we replace that piece of reinsurance and that much less is being purchased in the private marketplace, it makes sense that companies should in turn reduce the cost of insurance to policyholders. Citizens was made competitive but the purpose was so that we could prevent people from being potentially charged excessive rates.

What is a Life Insurance Beneficiary
1.If a beneficiary is not named on your policy, then the money is paid to your estate. The money will be distributed according to how the rest of the estate is to be divided according to your will.
2.You will usually name your beneficiary on your application for life insurance. You can change it in the future by contacting your life insurance company or your life insurance agent. You also have the option of naming more than one beneficiary and can even give each beneficiary a specified percentage of the benefit. For instance you could leave 20% to each of 4 children and 5% to each of 4 grandchildren.
3. There are several benefits to naming your beneficiaries in your policy versus just leaving the policy to your estate:
1) Speed. In most instances, life insurance companies will pay the life insurance to the beneficiaries as soon as a claim is filed. Often times estate situations can take a while to resolve if there is a lot of property involved or disputes involving the estate.
2) Taxes. Life insurance benefits are usually paid to the individual beneficiaries without any taxes being owed by the beneficiaries. In some situations estate taxes are paid based on the size of the total estate before those benefits are paid out to those named in the will. Life insurance would just add to the estate and require more estate taxes to be paid.
3) Debts. If the insured dies with outstanding debts, then their life insurance beneficiaries receive the benefits and creditors do not have access to the money. If the money is left to an estate, then often times creditors and bill collectors will need to be paid before the estate is paid out to those named in the will.
As always, I recommend that you seek the advice of a trusted tax professional on issues involving income taxes and an estate attorney on issues involving wills. Please see my disclaimer at the bottom of the page for more information.

Buy Travel Insurance For Visitors to British Columbia, Canada Online Now
Nowadays, Wawanesa has 1.800 employees working in Canada and the United States and 1.300 insurance brokers working in Canadian insurance market. In 2005 the Company earned $1.5 billion and expanded its portfolio to three billion dollars. It is one of the most reliable insurers in Canada.
In the beginning
The story of Wawanesa begins in 1895 when Alonzo Fowler Kempton and Charles Kerr decided to establish an insurance company, which would be more efficient than the companies existed at the moment and consequently, could charge lower premiums. The idea was viable. Twenty local farmers liked the initiative and invested $20 each to finance the company. Thus, the company was born.
For the first few years Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company experienced considerable losses, the fact that made it to diversify its coverage into a broader range of farm equipment and buildings, schools and churches. In addition, the company expanded its activity into new geographical areas - Saskatchewan and Alberta provinces. By the end of the century Wawanesa was protecting $1 million worth property. A few years later this figure grew to $20 million and in 1910 the company claimed to be "the largest Mutual Fire Insurance Company in Canada".
During the First World War the growth remained stable, and Wawanesa retained the name of a reliable company. In 1922 the company underwent a change in leadership. The new managing director, Charles Morley Vanstone was the man, who led Wawanesa Insurance through the hard times of the Great Depression.
Further growth
In 1926 Wawanesa offered its clients coverage on private buildings in towns and cities. In 1928 the company diversified its coverage more and issued the very first auto insurance policy. A year later Wawanesa was granted a Dominion of Canada charter, which meant the company could offer coverage throughout Canada. The years of the Great Depression had a little impact on Wawanesa. In fact the company strengthened and expanded during this period. It opened new branches in Montréal, Winnipeg, and Moncton within five years. While other businesses collapsed, Wawanesa prospered and before the Second World War Wawanesa had a reputation of a "straightforward organization, free from chicanery and all forms of trickery".
During the 1940's and 1950's, Wawanesa Insurance became known as an innovative company. For instance, the company offered low premiums to young British Columbians who completed either a Canadian Automobile Association approved driver course, or a high-school driving program.
In the early 1960's, the company opened its subsidiary - Wawanesa Life Insurance Company. For the next few years both companies grew steadily, however in the late 1960's the company faced a new challenge, which had a great influence on the company's future.
New expansion
After the 1969 election of a New Democratic Party government in Manitoba, all drivers were compelled to buy auto insurance policies from the government-established "Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation". This had a drastic impact on Wawanesa, since the company was the largest automobile insurer in the region. The company's income in Manitoba fell to one-third of what it had been a year earlier. This and other factors enforced Wawanesa to diversify its business. The board of directors decided to open a subsidiary company in the United States, and California looked as the most promising area for the new business.
A year later, Wawanesa opened a new office in San Diego, California. It was the right decision; the market was as large as Canadian. In the first month Wawanesa issued 102 policies and San Diego proved itself as the best possible choice. Over the next 20 years the local population increased in five times and Wawanesa was destined to grow with the region.
In 1996 Wawanesa celebrated its centenary. It is certain that stability and service, the values that have always been the backbone of Wawanesa, will continue to guide the company in its second century.

Your Rental Car Insurance
While it's true almost no one wants to pay extra for a car rental, sometimes the insurance add ons can be very smart buys. A lot will depend on what your private auto insurance covers, but when it's needed, renter's insurance can be a real lifesaver.
The best bet to make sure you have the right rental car insurance coverage before you sign a lease is to check with your private insurance company before getting a rental. In many cases, private insurance will cover a lot, so the add on buy might not be worth the expense. However, the only way to know for sure is to ask, so make sure to do so.
If you do need rental insurance, you'll find there are several different types you can buy. Let's take a look at the main types of add on insurance:
Collision damage or loss damage waiver: This type covers everything, including the deductible, in the event of a crash. This might not be needed for some private insurance policy holders, but it can be a real money saver in an emergency for those who do need it. This coverage is generally fairly inexpensive. Do remember to check with your company before buying this type. It's very possible you already have it. If paying by credit card, also check with the credit card company before buying this option as some credit cards cover this, too.
Personal accident coverage: This insurance option covers accidental death and medical situations for the renter and passengers. Many times this coverage is not needed as personal insurance on your own car tends to travel with you. Be safe though and ask before you turn this down. It generally isn't very expensive, but what it covers can be.
Property coverage: There is an option that will cover all your belongings in a rental car from such things as loss, theft or even destruction in an accident. Again, private auto insurance policies will generally travel to the rental car and cover these things, but do find out before you turn it down. This type of auto coverage is generally pretty cheap, and it can be very welcomed if it's needed.
Liability: Here and again this type may not be necessary for those who have their own private insurance, but it's a very important coverage if it's needed. Liability covers you from claims made by others for injury, death and/or property damage.
Many of the major dollar rent auto insurance coverage types available might not be necessary purchases if you have good private auto insurance, but it pays to find out. Being covered in a rental car can be a very big deal if there's an accident or theft takes place. Nothing can ruin a vacation quicker than an uncovered accident. Check with your insurance company to be sure, and if you're not covered, cheap car rental insurance can help.

A Crash, a Wreck and Car Bike Racks
Now you are probably wondering what I did there? The answer is the one that is common for trips like this: bike racks! Ok, not everyone is such a huge fan of bikes and all these kinds of bike accessories, but I recommend sharing this interest with me. No other passion lets you see places like Hallodays, where probably no tourist has ever been. Two hundred people are living over there and surely everyone knows each other. But as you can imagine, the weird town was not the actual reason why I traveled there with my brother. It was the area around. There is likely no other place in the world, where you can drive as fast as you want and check out the performance of your auto’s engine. But as I mentioned, driving my car just to check the engine’s performance did not bring me there.

Insurance is good sevise for us
With the technology developed by Blaupunkt and powered by Nuance, consumers can simply say the address of their destination and the navigation system will readily read out all information needed by the driver. Other navigational system requires drivers to type in the address of their destination which can distract the driver while driving. Another new feature for Ford vehicles is the one push phone call. By pushing the "push to talk" button on the steering wheel and saying the number or the name of the phonebook entry, the system will dial the number.
Steve Chambers, the president for Mobile and Consumer Services Division at Nuance, said: "Nuance has a long history of working with Ford. Now with the advanced speech technology in the Blaupunkt navigation solution, we are able to offer drivers a safer alternative to the drivers' distraction created by the use of navigation systems in cars. With the voice user interface, powered by Nuance Automotive, drivers no longer need to take their eyes off the road or their hands from the wheel to dial their phone, enter an address to the navigation system or control their audio system."
This feature in the future will not only be available for Ford vehicles as other automakers are sure to follow suit. Luxury vehicles like Acuras with Acura body parts can be expected to have this feature soon.

Car insurance is a best protection for a car
The only difference being that people in earlier times were not able to buy this because it was fairly expensive for middle class where as in present times, thanks to the mushrooming of several financial institutions, anyone can purchase these gorgeous machines. However, if the car undergoes any damage then one can be rest assured that one might be forced to shell out a fortune for everything in today's world comes with a fairly high price tag. This can be quite a handful for a man with average income who would now be forced to pay on two different fronts - one on repayment of loans and other on the repair of the car. It is here that car insurance UK comes to the rescue of people and ensures that they are spared from shelling out an exorbitant amount by arranging for the repair of the car.
CAR INSURANCE
Needless to say what a relief such a service like car insurance UK can be for people. However, one must understand that car insurance can only be helpful when people actually take care of a few things. Firstly they must ensure that their vehicle is priced fairly, then they also should see that the policy comes to life as soon as it is signed. Also needed to be taken care of is the fact that no wrong information is given to the insurance company as also that a thorough check is done to ensure that all the information put in the agreement is correct and to one's satisfaction.
These efforts would ensure that car insurance UK goes a long way in helping people out in such a desperate time when their car has faced a major damage and need a thorough over hauling.

Car Insurance - do you really understand
With thousands of insurance companies to choose from, each using unfamiliar terminology, finding car insurance can be quite a daunting task for a new driver.
Without guidance, searching for car insurance quotes and finding the right policy can be a challenge. Here are some tips to help simplify the process of understanding car insurances.
Different Types of Policies
When you apply for car insurance you will be faced with the following policy options:
Third Party
This is the minimum amount of cover that insurance companies can offer you. It only covers damage costs if you injure someone else or their property in a motoring accident. Any damages or injuries sustained to yourself or your vehicle will be down to you to pay for.
Third Party Fire and Theft
This is the minimum amount of cover that some companies will offer. You will be protected if you injure or damage someone else’s property. It also covers your own vehicle if it is stolen or burnt. What it won’t cover you for is the cost of your vehicle if it’s involved in an accident or is vandalized. This type of insurance is most appropriate when you have a vehicle that is of low value.
Comprehensive
This is the most expensive form of insurance but it covers you for almost every eventuality. What it covers can vary depending on insurer but most fully comprehensive insurance will cover you for accidental damage to your own vehicle, injury to someone else, damage to their vehicle and damage to your vehicle from fire and theft. Some policies will cover you for items that are stolen from your vehicle and also medical expenses if you are injured.
Excess
When applying for your for car insurance you will be asked to agree on an excess fee. This means that if you are involved in an accident that is your fault, then you will be required to pay the first £100 - £500 of the claim. . If you are trying to reduce your policy then you can pay a higher excess, but in the event of an accident that is your fault, you will be required to pay this amount when you make the claim. It is important to note that with some insurers you may be required to pay a young drivers excess if you are under 25 years of age.
No claims Bonus
This is the number of years that you have had car insurance without making a claim. The more years you have the better, as this proves to the insurance company that you are of low risk, which will lead to a reduction in the amount you have to pay. If you do happen to make a claim, which is proven to be your fault, then you can lose you no claims bonus. If you have a number of years built up then your insurance company can offer you protection on those years, so you don’t lose them in event of an accident that is your fault.

Car Insurance
Having lived in America and South Africa I have found it difficult moving back to a country where the individual is insured as opposed to the vehicle. It used to be the case that if I wanted to borrow someone's car that they'd sling me their keys and off I'd go safe in the knowledge that if the worst were to happen I'd be covered.
Forgetting the laws in England I recently suggested to a friend that I drove their car home for them from the pub. The idea was laughed at and not because of my questionable driving. The reason is the penalties for being caught are so severe. The same applies for lending a vehicle over a couple of days. It is often difficult to find insurers that are willing to cover you for a short amount of time. So borrowing a car for a single journey can end up being extremely expensive.

The break down of insurance
The family car is more than a tool for just work and play; it is entrusted with the lives of you and your family on a daily basis. It can also be a status symbol for all of your past and present accomplishments in life. Cars really are more iatrical than some people would think. It only makes sense that you would have an auto insurance policy to protect this very important investment.
FYI About Auto Insurance
What exactly is auto insurance? It is more than just an added expense and piece of paper stuffed in your glove box. You even begin to wonder how needed it even is. Think of your auto insurance policy as a shield and a back-up generator all in one; it can keep you safe from the possible and unforeseen accident and/or mishap.
Auto insurance may not be able to prevent that other driver from careening in you or the lamp post from jumping into the middle of the road during a rain storm, but that little piece of paper can shelter you and your family from unnecessary harassment and further turmoil during a time when you may not be at your fighting best.
You have made the decision to obtain auto insurance for your vehicle. Do you know what is included in your policy? It is good to know what basic points of coverage your

Car Parts: Backbone of Any Car
One of the vehicles that are hugely liked world over is cars. Perfect utility machines, they contribute handsomely and eradicate quite a few troubles from one's life. Indeed, there cannot be two thoughts about the fact that cars indeed are a multi-utility phenomenon. Not only does it eradicates one's commuting troubles but also adds handsomely to one's status symbol as well. It is extremely surprising and ironical, therefore, that people don't give as much attention to car parts or car accessory that they should be giving. No wonder then that most of the people start complaining about the bad performance of their cars almost as soon as they purchase them.
A few examples would explain the whole point pretty easily. Take the case of car mats. In spite of the fact that they provide extremely important service to the cars yet they are not taken that seriously by people. Imagine a part of the car that saves it from dust and rain and provides cushion to feet thereby making the journey comfortable is not given its rightful due. Nothing can be as baffling!
Similar is the case with spare parts. Such integral car parts but again not given as much attention as is their right. There are times on several occasions when you cannot get the proper silencer or combustion pipes etc. and have to wait for days for them to arrive to get the short coming fixed. Had a careful attention been given to these essential components then situation would not have deteriorated that much.
These points should communicate the point pretty nicely that a careful observation to car accessories or car parts while purchasing cars would go a long way in helping people combat such critical times. All that you need to do is to pay slight attention to these essential components to give that edge to your car.

Protect Your From Car
This has some benefits, as into modern cars more and more technology and features are added, but also a series of drawbacks. When it comes to repairing your own car, things have become more complicated. Modern vehicles have many computers that effectively control everything a car does and a lot of electric schemes and that is why repairing your car in your own back yard is not feasible to almost anyone with a car newer than 15 years old .
Because cars nowadays very complex. Everybody recommends going to a large repair shop when something goes wrong. But in the same time some car repair shops are more likely to take advantage of their customers' ignorance.
No one expects you to become a car mechanic overnight, but if you are ignorant about your car and car repairing, mechanics in some car repair shops can take advantage of your ignorance.
In addition, spending months in the court of justice arguing against the shop that has repaired your car is not the way you want to spend your time, I would presume. There are couple ways to protect yourself and your wallet from car repair shop owners that try to take advantage of people when it comes to their cars.
Before you go to the repair shop, do some research about every service center you are considering going to. Check out the shop through ever means available to you, such as word-of-mouth, the Internet (people can post on their blogs or in forums their experience with car repair shops), or other resources (a very valuable resource for finding information about a certain company is the Better Business Bureau).
These resources (including the Better Business Bureau) can be found both online and offline and they are valuable as they offer you a convenient way to check a business's standing and whether there are any unresolved complaints against them. Also, talk to your friends and relatives to find out what car shops they go to and if they are satisfied with the mechanics and the prices.
Second, ask for recommendations. If you do not even know where to start, or you would rather go to a shop with which someone you know has had personal experience, you can ask around for recommendations.
For example, a friend’s recommendation that he has brought his car to the same mechanic for ten years and is satisfied with the work done is a very convincing argument. When you go to a repair shop you have never gone before, be sure to ask many questions.
This is perfectly normal and they will see that you are very interested in their services and your car. You should ask about their prices, their guarantees or warrantees, how much experience their mechanics have, whether they have won any awards, and how they handle customer complaints and other similar questions.
As important, it is to show an interest in your car. Do not leave it alone with the mechanics, stay with them when they look at it to be sure that they look everywhere and in this way, you can avoid them making you to pay for things they never fixed on your car.
Finally, when they tell you what the problem is, request to see the problem. This is in fact your legal right and it is just another method to avoid being abused by the repair shop.

Saving on Auto Insurance
Here is a great way to save of auto insurance: driving safely. Driving with caution is one of the number one ways to keep those rates on the lower end. Insurance companies do not take too kindly to traffic tickets and auto accidents because they only increase their costs.
Some auto insurance companies will use your credit rating score in calculating your rates. So, if you've got a less than stellar credit rating, watch out! You may be dishing out more for your auto insurance than is actually worth it. Some insurance companies will give a price reduction in premium if your vehicle is equipped with the most current safety equipment such as air bags and automatic seat belts. By investing in car alarms or other various security devices such as a car tracking system.
Cars that have more expensive parts, or are sportier are equipped with higher insurance rates.
There are guides offered by each individual stateÕs insurance department that will supply you will all the information available about auto insurance savings in your vicinity.

The Wacky World of Car Insurance
Traditionally, cars are insured against fire, theft, vandalism, and other damage from a third party. It's not so well known, however, that cars are also insured against Third Potato and Act of Cow…
No, you didn't read that wrong! In recent years, car insurance claims have actually been filed for more unorthodox reasons such as potatoes making a bid for freedom and getting lodged behind brake pedals, and cows deciding that a car looked like a tasty snack and having a lick, damaging the paintwork in the process.
And these are just the more believable motor insurance claims. Pity the driver who had a claim made against them because their car door opened by itself when they drove round a bend, launching a frozen kebab at a passing car and causing untold damage. Or the driver who suddenly found himself with a frozen squirrel as a passenger – the chilly rodent had fallen out of a tree and crashed through the unfortunate person's windscreen

First Car Buying Tips
I don't know about you, but when I bought my first car I didn't have a lot of information to go on for the process. I admit I had two cars previously to the first car I bought, but those deals were made by my father. He was the man with the money and he was paying for the cars outright. So when I decided to trade in my car for a different model and a newer vehicle I needed a little help from those who had bought cars before. I didn't want to make a mistake and get an unfair deal from a dealership or private owner. The great thing was I had my parents to help me find the information I needed to purchase that car. I even had my mom come help me make the deal. It took us a little over five hours and closing the joint, but I walked away with one of the best deals on a 2000 vehicle that I could have for my financial state as well as my credit history.

How Does Car Insurance Work
Many of us know we have to have car insurance in order to get our license and tags. However there are some that don't really understand the actual policy or how it works to protect us. There are also different requirements for having a loan or lease on a vehicle rather than just owning it out right. Insurance companies ask a lot about our daily lives such as how we use the car, where we park it, and other aspects of driving to ascertain the risk we might pose to the vehicle they are covering.
Car insurance works in that we choose a level of coverage whether it is just liability or includes comprehensive and collision. There is also a choice in the amount of actual coverage regarding motorist, uninsured motorist, and medical. The amounts and type of coverage you choose is what will determine the premium you will pay on a month to month, six month, or yearly basis depending on the terms of your policy.

Car Loans
Before applying for the loan, you should first know that interest rate and other conditions will depend a lot on your credit history. Take a copy of your credit report from the entire three credit rating agency and make sure that the report is without any errors and all your payment facts are correctly mentioned in it. Know your credit score also.
You must keep this fact in mind that you will get these loans at lower rate of interest if your credit history is unblemished and you have a good credit score. Lenders will charge interest at higher rate in case you have a blemished record of making payments in the past.
However, a low rate can also be ensured on taking these loans against your home or any property of good value. Or, the car you are going to buy can also be used as collateral. Lenders keep the car deal papers as collateral and let you drive it till you finally repay the loan. The secured loan is best suited also for bad credit history people.
Car loans come in unsecured options as well, without collateral. But only smaller amount is usually approved. For covering risks, lenders charge interest at higher rate. Both secured and unsecured loans are of shorter duration of up to 5-7 years.
Lenders want the borrowers to make down payment, which is lenders’ way of making the loan safer. So, if you make a sizable down payment, the loan approval comes without hurdles from the lenders. One can say that bad credit history people can ensure the loan on making good amount of down payment.
Prefer online lenders as they offer car loans at competitive rates. Their additional fees are also fewer as compared to banks or financial institutions. Ensure repaying the loan in time for escaping any debts.
